cool mornings

A fine, foggy mist rises above the surface of the pond this morning as we enjoy a peaceful cool morning.   After two torrid weeks of temperatures in the triple digits, this cool morning is a blessing to everything alive.  We slept with the windows open last night for the first time in weeks and lay listening to the frogs and other insect sounds.  Now that is summer sleeping at its best!

As farmers, Mother Nature has a hold on us during most seasons.  She controls our daily lives as most city-dwellers will never understand.   She controls our moods, our attitudes, our income, and  our future.  We’re thankful today, that she has given us a reprieve from the uncomfortable weather.

Ruth, I truly hope the weather will come through! Nature certainly does control our lives. I live on fresh produce and the thought of being without quality food is foreign to me. Is there a vocation more weather dependent than farming?

Sometimes in the winter – here on the West Coast – the rain will stop, the sun will pop out and we all realize what a glum lot we’ve been – and why!
