The trip started out badly. Boarded the plane. Mechanical issues. Delay. Missed connecting flight. Delay. Lightning in Oklahoma City. Planes grounded. Delay. No free WiFi at Dallas Fort Worth. That’s just annoying. Delay. Change gates. Change terminal. Waiting for a flight crew.
My granddaughter and I were scheduled to arrive in Portland to visit my youngest daughter. The flight was to arrive at 2 PM. We finally arrived at 3:45 AM the next morning. Almost 14 hours late. But it was my birthday and after we were finally in the air for a few minutes, my granddaughter sang Happy Birthday to me!
The rest of the trip was wonderful. The weather was pleasant, only one hot sticky day and no rain. The company was delightful and we did lots of fun things. Ate lots of amazing foods (including vegan) which is quite a stretch for this Midwest Farm Grandma. We stayed at a really cheap motel…… $50 a night! It was an older motel, very plain, but clean and the bed was great! Best of all it was just a few blocks from my daughter’s apartment.
Oregon is a beautiful state. We spent most of our time in Portland, but made a trip to the beach on Sunday (brrrrr… windy and cold) and to the Columbia River Gorge and Multnomah Falls which is absolutely gorgeous. We enjoyed many of the neighborhoods and unique shopping boutiques. So much vintage furniture and vintage clothing. This Grandma had so much fun finding stuff from the 50’s and beyond.
Best part of the trip was time spent with my daughter and her partner, and with my granddaughter. Great memories.
We were out in Portland this summer, too, to visit family and friends!
We drove, though, so we didn’t have any flight issues…. just lots and lots and lots of hours in the car! We finally got to visit Cannon Beach this time, which we’d never done before— so many interesting sea creatures as the tide went out!
I’m glad you had a chance to visit your daughter. Portland’s a fascinating place! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

I remember taking my husband to a vegan restaurant and his claim of “Im going to hate this from the get go”. 🙂 Sounds like a wonderful holiday.

I would never take my husband… he’s too much into pork chops and steak! Thanks for the comment.

I had to chuckle at “Midwest Farm Grandma”. What’s an example of something vegan that you ate (just curious).
Sounds like a great trip … and Happy Birthday!

We ate at a little sandwich shop called “Brass Tacks”… the entire menu was vegan. I had a vegan ham sandwich on whole grain wheat bread with lettuce and tomato, cole slaw, and chips. Very tasty. My daughter had a black bean burger. They make their own mayonaise with no eggs….Served on a reusable tray covered with brown paper… no plates …. everything recyclable.
