Of Webs and Spiders….

The spiders had been busy all night weaving and spinning.  When first light revealed a foggy, misty, morning the webs drooped with the moisture in the air and sparkled as the light became brighter.

One web in the tall Colorado Spruce was attached to the ground with a strong support and attached above to a bough of evergreen.  The breeze gently moved the entire web back and forth like bed sheets hanging on a clothesline.

Look closely.....

Look closely…..

Webs were everywhere glistening and almost glowing in the early morning haze.   It was going to be another hot, muggy, buggy, day but for now the coolness belonged to me…. and the spiders.

we have these huge, and i mean huge garden spiders – i call them my natural bug exterminators. they love to eat all the huge grasshoppers or maybe locust…cannot tell the difference. 🙂 lovely story.

  2. Those garden spider webs that come every fall have a sad note. The mother spider spins the web to catch the prey that will feed her offspring next year when she has passed on from the winter cold. I love them. Dianne

After years of living life, I instinctively know this is the time of year for the weaving of webs by our spider friends. Were someone to watch me as I leave my house each morning to take our dogs out, they’d wonder if I am doing some strange ritual. For I perform something similar to the sign of a cross with exaggerated hand motions. I know if I don’t I’ll walk right into a web or webs. Although I appreciate our spider friends and what they bring to earth, I would prefer them not to land on me and accompany back into the house. Webs after rain or in fog are one of my favorite images to photograph!

  5. I wonder if there is a time lapse video somewhere showing how on earth spiders manage to create such strong and intricate webs in such a short time (and over such long distances?) I sweep the webs away from the sliding doors and off our deck every morning and the next day they’re back again. Such tenacious creatures (we could learn a thing or two from them, I think!)

Thank goodness you didn’t knock them down or kill the spiders.
