I am sure there are hundreds of blogs out there that are full of household hints. I follow Pinterest and it’s full of pretty much any household hint you could possibly think of. Sometimes you do things a certain way for so long, you forget that no one else does it that way. You may not even realize that “your way” is something others might be interested in.
Last week I showed a few friends how I capture those tiny little fruit gnats that appear when you have apples or other fruits sitting on your counter top. I just pour a little bit of vinegar in a shallow white bowl (for some reason white works better), add a couple drops of dish detergent, and the gnats will jump in and drown! Gruesome, I know, but they are so annoying.
I have hardwood floors in my house as well as a cat, so these dusting shoes are a dream come true! Just slip them on, slide around, and pick up the dust, cat hair, etc. And you know that one-size-fits-most label? It’s true for these foot coverings. Mine are lime green so I can find them easily when I need them. If you have grandkids, your floor-dusting days are over, because they love to slip and slide and actually help! You may want to buy a couple of pair to avoid arguments! Oh… and you are allowed to drag your feet!
Using the same general concept, I also dry my freshly mopped floors with…… a bath towel! Just throw it on the wet floor, place each foot on opposite ends of the towel, and wipe your floors dry without even bending over! Slide around awhile…. I am pretty sure its good exercise.
The Queen of Household Hints-Heloise shares some cool hints:
Body Heat Coolers
• Place a piece of silverware on the back of your neck for a quick cool down.
• Rest your wrist on a cold glass of iced water and feel the chill.
• Wipe your feet with an alcohol wipe to cool off your whole body.
Do you have a better or easier way to do something? I’d like to hear about it.
I just heard about the fruit fly cure last week and yes it does work – even though i still have some when I get home at nite. Love the dust slippers!!

I have noticed that once the vinegar loses some of its potency…. it doesnt work as well. I have to keep replacing it!

Great advice and hints Dear Realistic Ruth! I love the dusting ideal for the floor. We also have wood floors. I am sure this is very good exercise. Maybe some music to go along with the dust escapades on wood!

and the shoe thing was so funny…I giggled picturing you wearing them to the store…although I’m so used to going barefoot…I end up at the store like that!

I absolutely HAVE to get myself a pair of those slippers! Do they come in ‘cat’ sizes? I have an exposed beam running the full width of the house that I can’t quite reach with the duster; the cats have figured out how to get up there, though … so I was thinking they could dust it for me if they just had some of those slippers (and think of all the other high or tight spaces they could clean!!!)

What a great idea. Duster mitts for cats. They could also clean up their own hair!

I’ve seen sliced lime studded with whole cloves set on a dish and placed in the seating area of the garden makes a great mosquito repellent. Havn’t tried it myself, but will definitely try it next summer.

It works…. one morning I counted 27 floating fruit flies. I thought there would be only 3 or 4.
